My Fathers Heart has opened its doors to exhibit an array of artwork from scores of Sheffield school pupils.
More than 300 people gathered at the showroom on Tuesday evening for the launch of Sheffield High School for Girls ‘A Celebration of the Arts’.
The pop up exhibition showcases the art from pupils at Sheffield Girls’ Junior and Senior School and Ashdell Prep, transforming our facility at Broadfield Court into a gallery, which is open to the public throughout March with a goal to raise money for Sheffield’s homeless via the Cathedral Archer Project.
The artwork on display includes portraits, textiles and claywork, all of which has been created by pupils aged 4-18.
The ‘Welcome Portrait’, entitled ‘Andy - Homeless’ was painted by Year 12 Artist Anna Eason as part of her A-level coursework.
Speaking about the painting Anna said: “It is amazing to see my artwork as part of the exhibition. I was inspired to do a large study of a homeless man as I've always found the details in their faces and their expressions intriguing. They made me think about the interesting story behind them compared to an average, working man.
“Through producing this piece of work it became more apparent to me how 'normal' homeless people are and how equally deserving they are of a portrait, as a wealthy or iconic person.”
A number of pieces were available for sale on the evening with proceeds being split between the Sheffield High School for Girls Art Scholarship Fund and the Cathedral Archer Project.
A Celebration of the Arts by Sheffield High School for Girls and Ashdell Prep is open to the public at My Fathers Heart, 3 Broadfield Court, Sheffield, S8 0XF from 1-31 March. Opening hours 10-5pm Monday to Saturday.
